Command line
npx offprompt [init | remove | list] [--agent <name>]... [--project <dir>]
npx offprompt [init | remove] -g [--agent <name>]...
npx offprompt mcp
init
Puts offprompt into the project for the agents found on this machine, or those named with
--agent. It copies the server to tools/offprompt/mcp.mjs and declares it in each agent's
project config. Installation lists the files. add does the same.
With -g, it installs offprompt for you, in every project, instead: as a plugin where the agent
takes plugins, and as a server in its MCP config otherwise. npx runs offprompt from a cache it may
clear, so -g first copies the package to ~/.local/share/offprompt, and the agents install
from that copy.
Running init again replaces the server with the version you ran and rewrites offprompt's entry
in each file. With -g, Claude Code and Codex get offprompt taken out and put back, since they keep a
plugin at the version they installed.
remove
Takes offprompt out of the project: its entry in each agent's config, then tools/offprompt/.
Every other server a file declares stays. With --agent, only those agents' entries go, and the
server stays for the rest.
With -g, it takes offprompt out of every agent that has it, and then removes
~/.local/share/offprompt. Claude Code and Codex take their plugin out through their own command,
so for them it needs claude and codex on your PATH. With --agent, only those agents' entries
go, and the copy stays for the rest.
list
Shows every agent offprompt can reach, whether it was found on this machine, the file a project
declares it in, and how -g installs it.

mcp
Runs the server on stdio in the folder the command runs in, for an MCP client that starts
offprompt itself as npx -y offprompt mcp. offprompt writes in that folder, or in the workspace
the client names. init is the usual way in: it gives every agent of the project the same
server, and the project carries it.
Flags
| Flag | What it does |
|---|---|
--agent <name> | Only this agent, by the name in the first column of list. Repeat it for several |
--project <dir> | The project, when it is not the folder the command runs in |
-g, --global | For you, in every project, instead of for one project |
--from <dir> | With -g, for development: the folder pnpm package made, used as it is |
-h, --help | The usage above |
init and remove refuse to run in your home folder, at the root of the file system or in
offprompt's own repository, which are not projects to install into: run them in one, or pass
--project. Naming an agent that has no project config, with --agent, is refused too: -g
installs offprompt for it.
